This week we have been looking at the families of instruments within an orchestra. We listened to a piece of music and how the different families (strings, brass, woodwind and percussion) make the music sound different. It was interesting seeing how an orchestra is seated in their families. We then looked at lots of different percussion instruments and put them into groups – bells, triangles, xylophones and glockenspiels etc. We had fun conducting our ‘mini orchestra’.
