Over the last few weeks we’ve been learning about our Autumn I wonders…

We wondered and had fun learning about Why the leaves fall of the trees? What animals live in our woods? What noises the animals make? If woodland animals are carnivores or herbivores? If hedgehogs live underground? and What do badgers eat?
We loved creating our own Autumn leaves paintings in the style of Jackson Pollock, who is an artist who used the drip technique by dripping and splatting paint. We used pipettes, paintbrushes, conkers and acorns to create our art.

We learned about what evergreen and deciduous trees are, then went on a Leaf Hunt in our woods to see what kind of trees we have at Carrick Knowe. Back in the classroom we enjoyed using the microscopes to have a closer look at them, and some of us turned them into leaf puppets.

In our Play, lots of us were making houses for Woodland animals, this led us to going into the woods to make a home for an animal using natural materials. One of our wonders was if hedgehogs went underground, we learned they do but in the U.K they love to live in piles of leaves, so we left piles of leaves in the woods, we hope some hedgehogs will come and enjoy them.
