Below we have detailed the ongoing work that we are involved in:
In our meeting on 24th February (minutes can be accessed here), we set up four different ‘working groups’ to help the school with the following areas; road safety, allotments, after school activities and homework.
If you’d like to be part of one of these groups or just give some feedback or ideas then we’d love to hear from you. Please email us at email@example.com or visit the Parent Council Contacts page.
We are currently investigating whether our school can be part of a council-run initiative whereby traffic around the school is banned during drop-off and pick-up times.
We are going to pull together a list of things that need addressing within the allotment.
After School Activities
Update (April 2016):
We are looking at the possibility of setting up a number of different after-school activities (e.g. crafts, lego, languages).
In April 2016, we issued an online survey to gather the opinions of parents. The results of this survey can be found here.
Update (October 2016):
As part of the Carrick Knowe ‘School Improvement Plan’, they are looking at ways of reviewing the purpose, structure and approach of homework throughout the school.
Towards the end of the 2016 school year, a survey was created by the Parent Council and handed out to parents towards in order to find out their opinions on a wide range of issues regarding homework (e.g. purpose, difficulty, quantity, types).
At the start of the current term, teachers were also able to share their ideas and opinions through questionnaires and small focus groups. When all this data had been collected, the results from all sources were carefully analysed and a summary of these results can be found by clicking here.
In October 2016, the school launched an exciting initiative based on the results of all the research that had taken place. There is currently lots of great things going on with our homework as the school trials out different methods and measures the effectiveness of each one. For more detailed information please visit the homework section of our website. This can be found by viewing the ‘Homework’ page via the ‘Our Curriculum’ menu. Alternatively you can just click here!
Year Rep Role
Update (Nov 2015):
We have been working with the teachers and parents to create and clarify the role of the Year Rep.
This has now been agreed and a letter of introduction from each Year Rep will be issued shortly. We want to gather parent e-mail addresses to enable improved communication between the Parent Council and the parents.
The P2, P4 & P7 Year Reps will be working more closely with the teachers to further develop the Year Rep role. This will be piloted until June 2016.
Playground Activities (Gill Napier)
Update (Nov 2015):
At the Parent Council meeting on 17th September, Mr Blaikie asked for parent volunteers to come in and help improve the range of activities that are available to children at break time and lunch time.
Parental Engagement (Sharon Croome)
The Parent Council are working with the school to increase Parental Engagement.
Update (Sept 2015):
Our main focus will be the Nursery to P1 transition.
