Friday 25th September

Hello everybody. I would like to say a huge well done to everyone who is off to a great start with this year’s reading challenge. Thank you to everybody who has sent in their reading trackers for this month, we already have some people who have earned themselves Mission Points! It has been fantastic to see the interesting books and texts your have all been reading at home.

A thank you too to everyone who has sent in their Book Face entries, all earning their classes 20 Mission Points!

Keep up the great work everyone- happy reading!!

This Year’s Reading Challenge🚀

This year sees the return of the Reading Rocket Challenge 2.0 (for some of you in P7, you might remember taking part in the first Reading Rocket Challenge). The main difference with this challenge is that we will be completing it mostly online.

What do you need to do…🌠

The first thing you need to do is print off(or collect from your teacher) a copy of the Reading Record. On there you can keep a list of the books you have read as well as track your reading on your star chart.

For every text you complete, you can earn/colour a star. If you land on a Spaceship🚀, you will earn your class 10 Mission Points. The class with the most Mission Points at the end of the challenge will win a special reward.

You can earn extra points and rewards by completing a Space Mission. You can do these as often as you would like (there will be a new challenge every couple of weeks!)

Our First Space Mission 👨‍🚀

Your first mission (if you should choose to accept it…) is to create a Book Face photo for the text you are reading at the moment.

You might remember this from Book Week Scotland last year. We had some fantastic entries, I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s efforts again!

If you would like to have a go at this mission, ask someone at home to take a photo and email it in to the address at the top of this page.

If you would like to take part in the challenge and possibly be one of our Star readers.. don’t forget to send in a photo of your Reading Trackers on the last Friday of every month.

I know there are lots of keen readers (and authors) out there who enjoy spending time with a good book/story. What is your favourite genre…

There are also lots of ways of accessing different books and texts…

I know there might be some of you who do not read a lot out of school, for many different reasons (i.e you are busy with lots of other things, or maybe because you do not have many books at home). There may even be some of you who are thinking… ‘I just don’t like reading!’ 🤷

BUT… I promise you, there is a book/author/genre out there for everyone- you just need to find it!📚😀

Have a think about…🤔

-What types of films and TV programmes you like to watch (comedies, dramas, animations)🎬🍿

This can help you choose which genre of text will be right for you.

Remember, whatever you like to read counts; whether it is a comic book, a graphic novel, online blogs… as long as you are reading (and enjoying), it counts!

As always, if you would like some help choosing a text or finding a book by a favourite author/genre, please let me know and I will do my best to help.
