‘Winter Break’ Message!
The football teams and their coaches are taking a well earned rest over the most wintry months and shall return, refreshed towards the end of February 2020. Thank you to everyone who has given support to the teams so far this season.
Match Reports (23rd November)
A game of two halves.
This Saturday, in the rain, the team ventured up to Bloomiehall Park to play Juniper Green. The Carrick Knowe 7s took a little while to find their feet and at home, the Juniper Green team started more confidently and scored several goals in the first half. Hayden, with excellent work, saved several other good attempts. Quentin began to establish himself working hard in defence and becoming pivotal as the game went on. Quentin tackled skilfully and confidently and twice won the ball in front of the goal without conceding a penalty.
A different team came out after the half time break and Carrick Knowe now had all the possession they wanted. With Honzik on the right wing and Craig established on the left the run of play went Carrick Knowe’s way. Finally the goal came from an excellent corner kick from Quentin and Daniel slotting it into goal: well-deserved reward for all his hard work and effort throughout the game. By this time the onlooking parents were getting quite excited as it felt that more goals would come Carrick Knowe’s way. We finished up with smiles and laughter from all, as the team just kept on ‘nearly’ getting the ball in the net. It made for a highly exciting second half.
Player of the match – Quentin.
Final score Juniper Green 5 Carrick Knowe 1
Super Saturday (16th November)
…3 games and 3 wins for CKPS!
What a great morning for football at Carrick Knowe with us fielding three winning teams at home.
Primary 4s and 5s: The P4/5s kicked off early at 9.30 playing Gylemuir. After last week’s massive win, could they do it again? The score line was a bit tighter but yes they could! Congratulations to P4/5 for another victory this weekend!
Primary 6s: P6s played Fox Covert. The visitors got off to a good start scoring first, but Ross and Struan decided that wasn’t going to be allowed and scored two of their own each! The Carrick Knowe 6s were on the offensive now and Jake joined in the goal scoring fun to round off the game with a 5-4 victory. Well done team P6!
Primary 7s: P7s played Gylemuir in a tense, fast paced match. The CKPS 7s got off to a great start and 2 early goals energised the game. Both teams had many shots on goal and inevitably some of them went in; a blinding 17 goals were scored in all. Jack and Arran scored 4 goals apiece and Thomas slid 3 past the opposition goalkeeper. Daniel also scored. Carrick Knowe faced some excellent players in the opposition team and a combination of the boots of Jayden, Daniel, Peter and Avi provided well organised defence with the final wall that is Hayden (on superb form) preventing Gylemuir from getting a real hold on the game. Man of the match goes to Arran for hard work all the way through! Final score 10-7 to CKPS
Big up to all three teams for a superb morning’s football.
Soccer Saturday (9th November)
MASSIVE congratulations to the P4/5 team and coach Shaun Jack, for their huge goal scoring tally today – 16 goals. A very excited team told me that Ben scored 2 goals, Dylan, Ben and Johnie all scored hat-tricks.
Here is the triumphant team!
Jack did not let in one goal! Lovely to see our younger players doing so well!
The Sevens did not have it nearly so easy today as they faced a talented side at Fox Covert for the second time this season. Fox Covert scored first but Peter quickly came back at them with a great goal early on. However, they must have had Peters on their team too because they scored a further three goals by half-time. Both teams played some excellent football and in the second half the Carrick Knowe 7s scored a further two goals.
Max and Peter worked really hard in the opposition penalty box; one of Max’s shots skimmed across the front of the goal. As Carrick Knowe kept up the pressure, Jack rewarded the team with our third goal. Thomas provided his usual gliding control of the ball and made some great runs covering over half the pitch and forcing the opposition into rapid retreat on more than one occasion. Sam is to be congratulated on his first match play contribution! The Carrick Knowe team worked hard throughout but were beaten by a very strong team and the game finished in a 6-3 win for Fox Covert.
Soccer Saturday (2nd November)
Everyone At Home!
Playing against the travelling team from Echline, the 7s got off to a great start with Jack scoring the opening goal. This seems to be the standard for Jack now! Shortly after, Liam came storming in on the attack and just missed an early second goal. By half time the CKPS 7s were leading and had scored 5 goals. Arran kept to his usual style of terrifying everyone with his lightning speed and accuracy on the ball. This earned him man of the match.
However, Echline were not to be put down and after half time they came back with 3 rapid goals. The Carrick Knowe team were surprised but not put down. They held on with Quentin doing some star work in defence, Peter keeping them busy up front and the usual calm and competent goalkeeping from Hayden! Everyone worked very hard to keep the strong opposition at bay and the game finished in a 5 all draw.
In the P6 game, special mentions go to Keiran and to Ross and to Struan who were goal scorers against visitor from East Craig’s. Congratulations to the P6 team.
The P5s kicked off at 9.30 and had a muddy game against their opposition from Echline. Here we can see some of them in action. Looks very much like the goalie is in control!
Thanks to all the supporting parents from the three year groups and to the coaches for continuing to provide support for the players!
Soccer Saturday (26th October)
Saturday dawned bright and crisp and the P7 team headed up to Currie Primary for their match. The team began confidently, somewhat unsettling for our opponents and Jayden belted in an goal a few moments later! Currie gathered themselves and scored and the game settled a little and we went into half time 1 goal apiece.
However, the second half saw some more chances for the Currie players, whose happy team spirit was a credit to all involved. Currie went on to score a further two goals to win 3 – 1 but our developing squad at Carrick Knowe made them work hard throughout the match and the game fairly shifted from end to end. Outstanding goalkeeping from Hayden as usual, kept the scoreline tight and moving Isla, from attack to defence kept them guessing about what she might do next. Our new secret weapon, and man of the match had to be Liam, whose great sense of positioning meant that he was always in the right place for the pass!
Carrick Knowe players can be proud of their performance!
Football – Match Report
CKPS 7s vs Stenhouse
The Carrick Knowe sevens got off to a flying start with an opening goal in the first minutes of the match from Daniel and several other shots bouncing off the crossbar. A second goal from Arran came in spectacularly from a wide angle followed quickly by a right foot belter from Jack.
As the game went on Stenhouse were getting feel for the game and both teams had shots on target. Jayden kept the visitors occupied with several attempts on goal and the newly formed Max & Craig double act made it very hard for the excellent opposition goalie. Honzik scored his first match goal! By finish Carrick Knowe 7s Coach ‘Mitch’ picked out Max as man of the match!

Goals were scored!
Today saw the launch of the soccer season with the P7s playing a tough opening game against a very experienced team from Fox Covert. The Carrick Knowe team played with heart and with talent. Speedy pace and excellent footwork made Arran, Jack, Thomas and Peter players to be reckoned with. Jayden, Quentin and Finlay showed great positioning on the pitch and stamina throughout the game. Lana and Isla put in great effort making their debut to school football. Special mention must go to Hayden whose presence and ability in the goal was magnificent. Coach, Mr Mitchell and Mrs Bennett are so proud of the players and look forward to a great season.
“I think we tried really hard for our first game” [Isla]
Final Score: Fox Covert 9 – 4 Carrick Knowe
The P6 team took on Nether Currie and again fought a tough match, coming out with a score line similar to the P7s. Coach Mathieson said “you worked your socks off” to player of the match, Alexander. “It was really fun because at the end we had a big penalty shoot-out” Keiran. The first half saw end to end football with Nether Currie taking most of the possession in the second half.
Thanks to all parents who came along. Your support and help with the goals, nets etc. is valued.
