In the last few weeks, both Primary 5 classes have been to one of our local care homes to meet residents and share their literacy learning with them.
On Wednesday 24th January, Primary 5A walked to Murrayside Care Home and entertained the elderly people there by reciting their Scot’s poems and singing Scottish songs with them. It was a huge hit, with the residents eagerly joining in with the songs they had learned in their childhood, like Three Craws, Ali Bali Bee and Donald, Where’s Your Troosers? They also enjoyed hearing ‘Touch the sky’, a song from the Disney movie Brave.

On Wednesday 7th February, Primary 5B also went to Murrayside. This time the pupils recited their Scots poems, but then they sat with residents and read books to them. We chose our books carefully from the school library, with pictures to engage the residents. Staff were very impressed by how quickly and sensitively the children interacted with the elderly residents, and pupils repeatedly said how nice the old people were.

Well done Primary 5s. These care home visits really brighten up the day for the elderly. Thank you also to all our parent helpers, who made these trips possible. Great work everyone!
