At the start of Primary one we had some of the old sunflower heads from the Allotment, using our fine motor skills we pulled all the seeds out, we thought about what we could do with them, we used some in bird feeders and kept some to plant.

This week we all planted some sunflower seeds to look after so we can start our own sunflower lifecycle.

We have also been learning about the lifecycle of a caterpillar, through drama showing the different stages with our bodies and with our talk partner we created a loose parts lifecycle showing the 4 stages egg, caterpillar, cocoon and butterfly.

We are so excited to now have our own caterpillars to look after and watch transform into Painted Lady butterflies. Introducing our caterpillars Shorlee, Vanessa, Soldier, Leafy and Louis. We have learned some facts about caterpillars, they have 12 eyes, but they still can’t see very well, they don’t have lungs or teeth and they eat a lot. We look forward to learning more about them as they grow.
