The children are really enjoying listening to and reading James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. They decided that they wanted a HUGE peach, just like the one in the story for the classroom. So, much papier mache later, the peach was formed and painted. We enjoyed tasting peaches for research purposes along the way.
However the peach would not have been nearly as exciting without the wonderful insect characters and, of course, James, the hero of the story. The children split into groups to design and make their favourite character using craft materials. We started to list the skills we would need to make this successful, like, collaboration, communication, creativity, focus, sense making and ALL of these were needed during the build. They did a BRILLIANT job as shown in the photos below!

Can you spot Silkworm, Old Green Grasshopper, James, Centipede, Miss Spider and Ladybird huddled on top of the peach? The deck chairs on which Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker sat were also crafted by the class from twigs and paper towels and coloured using felt pens and ‘capillary action’.

We hope you have enjoyed seeing our scene as much as we enjoyed creating it.
