On Wednesday 6th June, Primary 5A went on a litter pick to Union Park. We were lucky because though it was windy, the weather stayed dry. At first there didn’t appear to be much litter, but as we started to look closely, we discovered a lot of smaller things amongst the vegetation. Many of things were quite unusual! Pupils are beginning to have quite a good understanding of how plastic can breakdown over time into smaller and smaller bits, eventually becoming micro plastics which then get into our soil system and water supply. They made a good job of picking up even the tiny bits of plastic. Again, it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our parent helpers. “This is quite therapeutic”, said one of them. During the litter pick, a local resident came out to say thank you to us all. Well done everyone. Great work!
