Following on from our visit to the book festival and hearing from the author M.G Leonard, who shared with us how she had struggled at school with spelling, punctuation and writing, prompted a class discussion about never giving up on your dreams. We then studied a quote from one of Erin Hanson’s poems and discussed how it is important to believe in yourself!

Our wonderful wings artwork was inspired by this quote and our class novel Feather. To create it we learned about the use of colour and how to use gradients with water colours, we added detail to our feathers with chalk.

We created self portraits in the style of Romero Britto who is a Brazilian artist, who combines cubism, pop art and graffiti painting in his work his work is often referred to as the Art of Happiness!

Around our faces we drew images of things that represent us and show what we like.

For Maths week we looked at how many artists use Maths in their Artwork especially shape. We looked Kazimir Malevich’s work who is a Ukrainian artist who used a range of 2D regular and irregular shapes in his art. We looked at and talked about how some of his art made us feel, then we created our own Emotion Art, choosing an emotion to represent with regular and irregular polygons thinking about the composition and colour. We enjoyed trying to guess what emotion everyone had created, can you guess the emotion for the Art below?

With Mrs McMorris we looked at MC Escher who is Dutch graphic artist who makes prints of tessellation art. We learned about how to create our own tessellations using shape patterns that fit together with no gaps.

Using our i-pads we created some digital tessellation pieces.

What a creative bunch we are!!

Happy Easter from everyone at Carrick Knowe! We return to school on Tuesday 21st April.
