At Carrick Knowe, we are very keen to promote active travel to and from school. As such, we are delighted to announce the beginning of our Carrick Knowe Bike Bus which will run for the first time on Monday 18th November 2024. This has been a long time in the making and we are delighted to have teamed up with The Bike Station to help us facilitate it.
Essentially, a bike bus is a group of children and adults who cycle to school together. Like a bus, the route will allow us to pick people up along the way.
All children need to be accompanied by an adult to take part. If any adult would like to participate but does not have access to a bike, please reach out to The Bike Station as they have a range of free adult bikes which they are happy to offer out.
We are hopeful that the bike bus becomes very popular and we can make it a monthly (possibly even a weekly) occurrence.

If you have not already expressed an interest in joining in and would like to be part of the Bike Bus, please email communities@thebikestation.org.uk or ashley.buchanan@carrickknowe.edin.sch.uk
Be Bright, Be Seen Competition

The darker nights have now approached and it is very important that we remain safe when out and about in the local community and beyond.
To raise awareness of the dangers of the dark, the JRSO’s are running a ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’ competition.
To take part, children can either send a photograph of themselves, wearing something bright and being seen, to Mrs Buchanan – ashley.buchanan@carrickknowe.edin.sch.uk or they can use a range of different materials, pens, resources to design a jacket (jacket sheets are available from class teachers)
All winning entries will be displayed proudly on our JRSO noticeboard.
Dr Bike 2024/25
Dr Bike will be visiting Carrick Knowe every month to offer free bike maintenance checks.

Each year group/stage will be invited to bring their bikes in on a set date. In October, Dr Bike serviced the Primary 7 bikes and at the end of a November, it is the turn of Primary 6.
Mrs Buchanan will send out a learning journal message to let you know when it is your child’s turn to bring in their bike.
