Autumn 🍂 is here! So …

October 27, 2025

… on Monday morning 20th October, it was very misty, as it sometimes is at this time of year… but the same view looked very different just two days later …

Recently we’ve been outdoors spotting signs of Autumn, and learning more about how we recognise the changing Seasons; some of us know how to say the four Seasons in the correct order, SPRING, SUMMER, AUTUMN, WINTER … but some of us are still practising this …

… the Carrick Knowe cherry blossom trees in the school grounds look ‘perfectly pink’ in the SPRING; but at this time of year their leaves change from green to a splendid variety of red, orange, yellow and brown. We also spotted some attractive fungi (mushrooms/toadstools) and talked about how some fungi can be rather poisonous, so it’s best not to touch wild fungi.

… Fred Frog was delighted to hear about some of the DIWALI (the Hindu Festival of Light) celebrations for the families of some of his pupils. At the moment, there’s a wonderful DIWALI display in school created by some of the P1 Team … and they also enjoyed some DIWALI music and dance …

Take a listen to this … it makes me feel like dancing and brings me some very happy childhood memories, because as some of you know, I lived in India for the first 12 years of my life! …

AUTUMN is a time to HARVEST as well as to PLANT; last year each and every pupil with whom I work planted a daffodil bulb in the shape of a number 70 (70 daffodils for CKPS’s 70 years!). They looked fantastic in SPRING 2025; all being well we will see them again and again each SPRING, for many years to come …

This year, inspired by some beautiful P4B art work, we decided to plant some crocus bulbs around the crab apple tree; they are not far from the place where the 70 daffodil bulbs are now hidden away under ground …

Very soon Fred Frog’s friends will each have had the chance to plant at least one of 40 crocus bulbs, planted in the shape of a heart; hopefully they will blossom successfully in the SPRING of 2026, just as the daffodils did this year …

To find out more about what Fred Frog and his friends have been learning about over the past few weeks, before and after the October holiday, please visit this BLOG again soon! That’s all for now, Mrs Dale

PS during the October holiday, Mr Millar kindly put together this smart new bench to use in the P1 and P2 playground
