As part of our STEM topic, last Wednesday P7 took a day trip to visit Edinburgh’s three bridges!
In the morning, we were based in the Traffic Scotland building and looked after by a civil engineer called Elaine. She told us all about her job and the skills needed to become an engineer. We then heard more about how the bridges were designed and built.
Then it was our turn – our challenge was to work as a team to build a bridge from one part of the room to another. Everyone was given different roles (we had project managers, quantity surveyors, health and safety managers etc.) and despite the simplicity of the task, it was definitely harder than it seemed!

It was great seeing EVERYONE work AS A TEAM and a special well done to our speakers (Mason, Naeto, Dara and Rupert) who had to present to everyone and answer questions at the end.

Then in the afternoon we walked across the Forth Road Bridge… There was genuinely blue skies when we first started walking, but that quickly turned into torrential rain!

Overall it was an excellent day and we must say a special thank you to Elaine who is retiring this year and has looked after us brilliantly for 3 years now. Also a special thanks to our parent helpers, Joanna and Fiona, for coming along with us too.
