Over the last few weeks we’ve been spotting signs of Spring, from the daffodils and blossom to the change in weather, we went on a Spring walk to see what else we could spot.

After seeing some new flowers, plants and leaves beginning to growing, we wanted to plant some seeds of our own to look after. We have planted our own cress seeds to look after, and have loved checking them each day see if they have started to grow yet. We are looking forward to being able to add these to a salad or sandwich once they’ve grown.

After learning about what we needed to do to look after our own seeds, like true Scientists we have started a bean experiment, we have 3 beans- 1 we have given water and sunlight, 1 just water and 1 sunlight. We made predictions about what we thought would happen to each and we also guessed how many days it would take for them to start to grow it’s been 7 days and we think one bean may be beginning to crack open.

We loved using the camera microscope to have a closer look at some of our Spring flowers, and have had lots of discussions around what we saw, noticing textures, patterns and shapes. Can you guess what we took photos of?

Putting our plant knowledge to the test, we worked with our Talk partner to create a loose parts model of a plant- first we identified what our model would need and why each part is important to the plant. Can you spot the roots, stem, leaves and flowers in our models? After a magpie minute to look at each others, some groups chose to add some insects as we identified plants also need insects to help them to continue to grow.
