At the start of the week we talked about how to choose a book that we would enjoy. We discussed looking at the front cover, title and the blurb. This helps us to find out what the book is about. We put it to the test and chose what we thought our top 5 books from our class library would be by looking at these features. This is how it ranked on Monday and with ‘Little Lost Penguin’ in first place. We then read one of the stories each day to see if our judgements were correct.

At the end of the week we ranked the books again now that we had read them. This was the result – we learnt you can’t always judge a book by it’s cover!

We also celebrated International Women’s Day by reading a book that has a strong female character. We read ‘Sofia Valdez for Future Prez’. The children absolutely loved this story and were very excited to share what they would do if they were president. They made mini placards for their campaigns and came up with words that described what sort of person they thought Sofia was.

On Thursday, we were extremely lucky to be able to visit Corstorphine Library who organised a great session for us. We started by doing a scavenger hunt around the library, learning how books are organised and what each section had to offer. We then made our own bookmarks and finished off with a lovely story told by the Tiger who came to tea!

On Friday, we all dressed up as characters from our favourite book and the costumes were just amazing!! A huge thank you and well done to all the effort put in with the costumes, we had great fun talking about each one and which book they were from.
