This term we have started learning about how to keep ourselves safe. We wanted to find out about the Ambulance service and had lots of questions! Firstly, we wanted to know what was inside an ambulance and watched a couple of videos online to help us. We decided to make our own ambulance and Mr Millar came to the rescue with a giant box that we could use. We looked at the Scottish Ambulance service colours and drew some important things you would find inside.

But what do you do if you need an ambulance? We learned about dialling 999 when it is an emergency and made some posters to teach others. Firstly you say what service you require, then say who you are, where you are and what has happened. Then, you listen to the instructions or questions from the call handler. Our posters are brilliant!

We practised what do do in an emergency and everyone had a turn at being hurt, pretending to call 999, being the call handler answering the call and the paramedic coming to help.

Lastly, our ambulance and paramedics would take the injured person to hospital. Some people needed x-rays, others a bandage and some an operation! Carrick Knowe hospital staff to the rescue!

We thought about the job of paramedic and the kind of person they would need to be. We made a list of some of the medical jobs that we knew of and voted about which job we could rather do. Which job would you choose?

We hope that we never need to call an ambulance! Next, we move on to the police!
