The Big Walk and Wheel 2024 took place between 11th and 22nd March. 2269 Primary Schools took party across the UK. Every day, the JRSO’s recorded how many of our children travelled to school actively (by walking, scooting or cycling) and they added this data onto the Big Walk and Wheel website. This information was then collated and compared to the other schools who participated. This year, I am delighted to let you know that we came…
2nd in Edinburgh
7th in Scotland
77th in the UK
A MASSIVE well done to everyone for choosing to travel actively to school.
Bikeability in Primary 5 and Primary 6
During Big Walk and Wheel, we were able to do Level 1 Bikeability with Primary 5 and Primary 6. The spring sunshine was definitely in our favour! Everyone who participated worked extremely hard and had a great time learning basic bike skills such as balancing, braking, signalling, bike control and getting pedal ready. It was lovely to be joined by our Community Police Officer for some of the sessions too.
”it was so good! I had such a great time and I want to do it again!”
“The cycling was really enjoyable. It was good to practice new skills on my own bike that I brought in from home”

Scooter-athon
The pupils across primary 1 – 4 took part in a Scooter-athon during Big Walk and Wheel. Everyone was encouraged to bring in their own scooter and helmet. The JRSO’s thought of some fun activities the children could do on their scooters and set up an activity circuit for them. Each class were given a 30 minute slot so they could work their way around the different scooter stations. There were lots of happy faces after this and lots of children were asking to do it again next year… watch this space!

P2 and P6 Love to Scoot!
P2B scooted with their P6B pals and had a fabulous time with them. They helped us to improve our skills and we made them run a lot to keep up with us!

Thank you so much to everyone who took part! Please continue to travel to school actively and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!
