This week we have looked at body systems. We learnt that there are at least 12 body systems which keep our bodies alive and healthy. We learnt what some of them help our bodies do – breathe, digest food, keep our bodies moving, fight infections etc. We went outside and drew around each other and then drew a body system inside our bodies.

It was Maths Week Scotland this week and so we focused on Maths in Science. We found out lots of facts about the human body and then we made some posters with maths problems to work out the facts. We haven’t finished these yet but they are looking great already!

We focused on the Digestive System and learned what happens to food when we eat it. We talked about all the organs in the digestive system, what happens when the food goes into or through these and what happens to the food waste! We finished the week demonstrating the digestive system by using different things to represent the organs. Some of the class loved doing this and some not so much! There were some yucky bits but some people didn’t mind getting their hands a bit dirty! This might be a lesson that we remember for a long time!

One of the facts that we learned was an adult’s short intestine can be between 3m and 5m long. We went out into the playground and measured what length this was and we couldn’t believe how long it was.
All week we have been doing little bits of Sumdog in class and it was great to find out that we came 2nd in the P2-5 competition. Well done everyone.
