In P2, we have been learning about the body. We knew lots of parts of our bodies but also had lots of questions!
We started off by finding out about our bones. We learned lots of cool facts about our skeleton. Did you know that an adult has 206 bones? Mrs Mac had a little model skeleton (Mini Bones), however we are very thankful to Nelson’s family who shared their skeleton with us… we named him Mr Bones. Mr Brewer made some new friends!
We next moved on to blood! Thankfully, we did not see any real 🩸! Did you know that your blood has 4 main parts? The white blood cells, the red blood cells, the plasma and the platelets.
The major organs in our body do lots of different jobs, from helping us to think and learn (the brain) to pumping blood round our bodies (the heart) to getting oxygen round our bodies and helping us to breathe (the lungs). We loved exploring our brilliant bodies!
Our muscles help our brilliant bodies to move. We designed muscle superheroes whose muscle powers were in their arms, legs or core. We worked with a partner to design and create these. Don’t they look amazing!
Our final week of learning included learning all about the 5 senses and then thinking about how to look after our amazing bodies. We made posters to remind others about the most important things we can do to look after ourselves, including eating well, drinking water, doing exercise, getting enough sleep, brushing our teeth, keeping clean and washing our hands. Our final task was to see just how well we do wash our hands. Our teachers put a powder on our hands (and desks!) to see just how we get on. The answer….terrible! 👏 The UV torch showed blue where we missed bits!
For our very last task, P2A and P2B created 5 questions about the body for the other class. We tried to make them tricky and to see if they remembered all the things we’d learned. However, each class showed off their knowledge. Well done team P2! Our brains and the rest of our bodies are brilliant!
