What a year we’ve had! The P2s themselves have written our final blog post of the year. Here’s everything we’ve done this term, in their own words:
People Who Help Us
We have been learning about firefighters and other people who help us. Some of us made a big fire engine and drew things firefighters would need to help them (hoses, ladders and other things). We learned how to “stop, drop and roll” in case we caught fire. We also needed to come up with an escape plan in case there was a fire at home. We used a doll’s house to practise this!

We have been learning about paramedics and keeping safe. We made a hospital in our classroom and it was fun to pretend to be hurt or be a paramedic, doctor or nurse. We pretended we were hurt and put on a plaster or a bandage on. We each wrote how we got hurt and how we were feeling.

If we were really seriously hurt we would call 999. We practised calling 999 on toy phones. One person phoned 999, one person pretended to be really hurt and the other person answered the 999 call and asked questions. We hope we never have to call 999!

We made a police station in our classroom. We watched a video of a police officer. On his blue uniform he had handcuffs, a pepper spray, a walkie talkie and a bright jacket. If the police are trying to catch a criminal they go in their vehicle, they talk to any witnesses, they might use their police dog or they might look for fingerprints.
There are three types of fingerprints. We took our fingerprints with ink and with flour. We are not criminals so we are not going to be arrested!

‘Authors Live’ with Jamie Smart
We were part of an ‘Authors Live’ online event with Jamie Smart. He has written and illustrated books such as “Bunny Vs Monkey” as well as lots of others. We learned how to draw Bunny and Monkey with lots of detail and create a comic to tell a story. We also learned some interesting facts about him and why he wanted to create stories about these characters. We liked seeing him on screen in our classroom and drawing along with him!

“We’re Going on a bear Hunt” writing
We have been learning the story “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen. We drew a story map and used actions to help us learn all the words. Next, we made a class version called “We’re Going on a Dragon Hunt” and then we wrote our very own versions and created actions for them. Layla went on a polar bear hunt in her story and Safiullah went on a fox hunt in his. Other versions include wolves and even unicorns! We practised telling our stories to each other, the other Primary 2 class and even the Primary 6s, who came to listen to us. We enjoyed drawing the pictures for our story maps and making up our own actions!

International Families Day
On International Families Day we invited our families into our class. We sat in our 4 Houses and we talked about our families. We talked about favourite foods, who was the best cook, what we liked to do together, things we played with and lots more. Everyone was given a big blank piece of jigsaw shaped paper. We drew a detailed picture of the important people in our families. The drawing had to look like the person wearing their favourite clothes. We enjoyed talking, listening and drawing with adults from our own and other people’s families.
