When we finished reading ‘I Never Liked Wednesdays’, we thought about the characters in the book and talked with our partners about which one we would most like to have as a friend, and why. Here’s what we decided …
“… I’d like to be friends with Midge and the Narrator/Thingy as I often enjoy being sarcastic like they do.
… I’d like to be friends with Midge and Thingy because they are adventurous and do some exciting things.
… I’d like to be friends with the policeman because I think I might like to be a policewoman one day; I could get some tips about what I might need to do to achieve my dream.
… I’d like to be friends with Charlie at the Cheeky Chipper because I’m sometimes cheeky and I love fish and chips!
… I’d like to be friends with the seagulls and liver birds because I love talking to birds and I’m really good at identifying them.”
This past week Fred Frog enjoyed another visit to the allotment where he admired the daffodils and looked out for any more signs of SPRING – he helped us to notice lots of small buds on all the fruit trees – we’re already looking forward to tasting more apples, plums and pears when AUTUMN comes again! …

CKPS Values: Definitions
This session Head Teacher Mrs Canning has been working with various groups of children to decide on definitions for our four school values. Mrs Canning said that the children really engaged well and did a fantastic job. including everyone. It means helping each other, sharing, and making others happy.

In the Carrick Knowe Primary School community, RESPECT means treating each other as you would like to be treated. It means listening to each other and looking after our things. Respect is showing good manners and appreciating everyone’s differences.
RESPONSIBILITY
In the Carrick Knowe Primary School community, RESPONSIBILITY means looking after and helping one another and looking after our belongings, including our world. It means following all our school values and behaving in a responsible way.
HONESTY
In the Carrick Knowe Primary School community, HONESTY means telling the truth straight away and owning up to anything you have done. It means being trustworthy, brave, and true to yourself. It also means being able to say sorry.

I LOVED seeing all the fantastic ‘WOW words’/adjectives that P7 pupils used to describe their many experiences at Lagganlia Camp, so beautifully illustrated – and what fabulous art work too!
As well as being CKPS ‘Book Week’, which also included a celebration of International Women’s Day, many classes have been out on visits: to the Chambers Street Museum, to Heriot Watt University, to Corstorphine Library, to FHS and to Carrick Knowe Church for the Community Concert! Thanks to the CKPS Parent Council, P5 to P7 pupils also had the chance to see the Theatre in Schools performance called Going for Gold: Me and Linford Christie.
So, perhaps after all this activity, there’ll be some time for rest and relaxation this weekend.

… Mrs Buchanan and her JRSO Team have been busy helping to prepare us all to take part in this year’s SUSTRANS Big Walk 🚶🚶♀️and Wheel 🚴🛴. Last year CKPS came second in the whole of Scotland 🏴 ! Let’s hope as many of us as possible walk, scoot or ‘cycle to school on as many days a possible between 11- 22 March 2024 … we can do it! YES WE CAN! …
