We’ve had a busy book week in P1b. We started the week with our Drop, everything and read enjoying looking at and sharing stories with friends.

We took our first trip having a great afternoon at Corstorphine Library, getting a tour of the Library, then making our own books and doing a scavenger hunt around the Library. We ended our visit by listening to a story about a pirate then getting to choose our own book to look at.

After our visit to Corstorphine Library we have been inspired to make our own books, we designed a book cover for a new story starring ourselves.

As part of Book Week and as it’s also International Women’s Day this week the whole school has picked a book to focus on with their class. We read ‘Girls Can do Anything’ and had a discussion around it, that in some countries girls can’t go to school to learn and choose a job they’d like to do. We talked about how it should be equal for everyone to get the same opportunities. We did a little activity thinking about different jobs if we thought they were for girls, boys or both, we each got a job card and had to think if it was a job for girls, boys or both, at the end we took the hoops away to show all these jobs were for everyone. We made a poster with some of the jobs we’d like to do which will get displayed in school.

We enjoyed bringing in our favourite book’s from home and sharing these with our Talk partners and the class, telling them about our books and why they were our favourites. We added the QR codes for some of them, so we can listen to our favourite stories.

Lots of us came to school dressed as our favourite character from a story, Can you guess which books we are from? It was great fun taking part in the World Book Day parade in the Hall.
