… but sometimes be as CALM as a sleeping cat 🐈⬛ ?!….
We found the answer to this interesting question in one of the POEMS some of us read this week …

We loved discovering that we could hear the sounds of the sea in some of Fred Frog’s seashell collection; summer will soon be here, so we’re getting ready to write about having fun at the seaside! …

We’ve also been using our Sound Charts to remind ourselves of the many sounds we’ve learned about this session …

We ❤️ using any kind of literacy games to reinforce our learning … the domino game helped us to read and spell ‘magic a-e’ words (plane ✈️, label 🏷️ , snake 🐍 , baker 🧑🍳) …

Throughout the month of MAY we’re using our ‘plenary dice’ to assess skills and to ‘think about’ our learning (plenary dice are a fun way for pupils to engage with reviewing and improving their work at the end of a lesson) …

SUMMER IS COMING! So Fred Frog’s large silver SOUND TREE is looking quite bare, stripped of all the colourful leaves which are now decorating our own individual SOUND TREES. We’ll bring them home soon, so that we can show them off and use them to remind us of some of our learning …

Many of us have used our ‘GROWTH MINDSETS’ as we’ve been putting the finishing touches to our puppet show performances! We’ve used our tremendous TEAM WORK skills so Teamwork Tina, our CKPS Superhero, is really proud of us all …
SHANARRI (our wellbeing indicators) … Safe, Healthy, Active, Nurtured, ACHIEVING, Respected, Responsible, Included.
This week we referred to the letter ‘A’ for ACHIEVING, as we thought about some of our recent achievements …

Various strategies helped us to improve our memory and spelling skills. We clapped syllables and used our finger spelling as we added the words below to our Sound Trees using joined-up writing – we were then rewarded with a game of SWAP – this game had 5 ! different GRAPHEMES (ways to spell) for only 1 PHONEME (the sound that we hear) …

NOW TO THE ALLOTMENT
We were very excited to see our newly-repaired poly tunnel – ALL THANKS to Ms Pincock. Following the damage caused by high winds, Ms Pincock first contacted the Edinburgh Airport Community Fund who generously covered the repair costs, and then she arranged for the refurbishment work. Three cheers for Ms Pincock! THANK YOU!

While out at the allotment, we were ‘busy bees’ 🐝 ! Ms Murphy has been working hard to help us have fun while becoming more bee friendly! Bumblebees are an important part of the natural world and they need our help to survive – and of course, they also produce honey, so… let’s be friends of the bees… the whole of TEAM CKPS are doing various activities to work towards achieving our SILVER ‘BEE FRIENDLY SCHOOL’ AWARD!

Here are some of the ‘buzzing bee 🐝 jokes’ I heard from pupils this week! …
What did one bee 🐝 say to the other? I love bee-ing with you, honey 🍯 !
Why do bees 🐝 🐝 have sticky hair? Because they use a honeycomb. 😃
What do you call a bee 🐝 that works for the government? A pollentician. 🤭
And since this BLOG began with a BEAR theme…. I thought we’d end with this bear/bee joke:
What would bears 🐻 be without bees 🐝? Just ears 👂 !
That’s all for now! Mrs Dale 👋
