Today P5 had a great day at Holyrood Palace. We got to show some of our knowledge of what we knew about Mary Queen of Scots’ life – I think the ladies were impressed!
We looked at some items that would have been used in the Palace when Mary lived there. There were some ruffs, plates and spoons (we found out that forks hadn’t been invented yet), a chamber pot (some people thought that was a big bowl to drink out of!) and something to make the ladies’ dresses stick out – it was the fashion to have a big bottom!

We then had a tour of the palace and we saw lots of things – portraits of kings and queens, secret doors and staircases, Lord Darnley and Mary Queen of Scots’ bedrooms and the blood where David Rizzio was murdered! (Not everyone was convinced that it is authentic.)

The ladies that showed us round Holyrood Palace said we were great and that we listened really well!

We then had our lunch and we managed to sneak in a little game before we started heading up The Royal Mile.

Going up the Royal Mile we were looking out for buildings that would have been around in Mary Queen of Scots time. We counted the closes that we went past and we found John Knox’s house.

After a bit of a walk we made it back to school. Well done Primary 5 – you were all great and I am sure that we will all sleep well tonight!
